As a career college educator, the author reflects on several influential works that reveal important issues facing higher education. Our experience, skill sets, and perspectives have generally wedded us to approaches of education that served the academy in the past, but we need to be continually evaluating our approaches for greater effectiveness in an ever-changing world. Books have a way of doing that. These highlighted works formed his views, moving this career professional to stand in different places along the way as he gained different vantage points to contemporary challenges that can profit leaders in higher education today.
